Baylor Football to Wear “Helmet of Hope” Decal for Childhood Cancer Awareness Game
Baylor football is using its platform to bring awareness to childhood cancer with a special helmet decal created by a pediatric patient at Baylor Scott & White McLane Children’s Medical Center.
In recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Baylor Athletics and McLane Children’s have partnered on an initiative that gives pediatric patients in Central Texas the opportunity to leave their mark on Baylor football. The selected design, titled “Helmet of Hope,” will be worn on every Baylor football helmet during the Bears’ Sept. 19 Gold Rush game against Louisiana Tech.
The decal was inspired by artwork created during a visit to McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, where Baylor football student-athletes and pediatric patients spent time personalizing Baylor Bear Head designs together.
The chosen artwork was created by 6-year-old Ilaria Ramirez of Cameron, Texas. Her design includes the words “faith,” “victory” and “strength,” along with the message “Helmet of Hope,” which she wrote directly on the artwork.
The design will serve as a tribute to children battling cancer and the resilience they demonstrate every day.
The collaboration began when Baylor football players visited McLane Children’s and connected with pediatric patients through the artwork project.
The Sept. 19 matchup against Louisiana Tech will feature a Gold Rush throughout McLane Stadium in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
For Baylor football, the initiative is about more than a one-game uniform detail. It is an opportunity to recognize the strength of pediatric cancer patients, support their families and remind the community that they are not facing the fight alone.
