Navy Unveils 2025 Army–Navy Game Uniform Honoring the 250th Anniversary of the United States Navy

Navy Athletics has officially revealed the 2025 Army–Navy Game uniform, a stunning, historically rich tribute to the 250th Anniversary of the United States Navy. The Midshipmen will take the field in this commemorative look on December 13, 2025, when they face Army in the 126th playing of America’s greatest rivalry.

This year’s uniform is built around one mission: tell the Navy’s 250-year story through design. From the six original frigates to the history of the U.S. Naval Academy to the unmatched legacy of the USS Constitution, every detail is intentional, symbolic, and deeply connected to the service branch’s origins.

Much of the uniform’s inspiration comes directly from the USS Constitution, the only surviving frigate from the Navy’s original six-ship fleet and the world’s oldest commissioned warship still afloat. After serving in combat during the War of 1812, where cannonballs famously bounced off her thick wooden hull, earning the nickname Old Ironsides, the ship later became a floating classroom for midshipmen during the late 1850s. It remains undefeated in battle and stands as a powerful symbol of the Navy’s resilience and ingenuity. The design team drew heavily from the ship’s materials, colors, and history to inform the uniform’s most meaningful elements.

Every tone on this uniform tells a piece of the Navy’s past. The primary shade, Washed Navy, is derived from the original uniform guidelines issued in 1776 and represents the faded blue coats worn by early sailors. Stone was chosen to mirror the color of the sails that powered the USS Constitution through countless voyages. Nautical Navy symbolizes the ship’s hull, the very surface that resisted enemy cannon fire during the War of 1812. Meanwhile, Heritage Red pays homage to the vivid red cannon carriages lining Old Ironsides.

Copper plays a significant role in the uniform and reflects its importance in naval history. In the late 1700s, all six original frigates were protected with copper sheathing to extend their longevity and safeguard the wooden hulls from sea damage. The tradition of placing good-luck coins beneath a ship’s masts also ties into this theme, as the USS Constitution famously carries 1797 and 1798 large cents beneath its masts. Even in the 1920s, copper became central to the Save “Old Ironsides” campaign, when students across more than 800 schools collected pennies to help fund the ship’s restoration. Under Armour honors that history with metallic copper accents used throughout the design.

The jersey features typography inspired by the “Act to Provide Naval Armament,” the foundational document that authorized construction of the Navy’s first six frigates. Embedded along the sleeves and collar are six ropes that represent these original ships, and each rope is tied with precisely 250 knots to commemorate the Navy’s 250th Anniversary. Metallic copper is used for the Under Armour logo, symbolizing copper’s long-standing presence in naval engineering and tradition. The sleeves are colored in Nautical Navy to resemble the Constitution’s hull, while Heritage Red on the cuffs references the cannons that defined early Naval warfare. On the upper back, an eagle and six stars replicate design elements from the ship’s stern. The left sleeve incorporates the American flag in honor of the Constitution’s flawless battle record, while the right sleeve showcases a custom “USN” monogram that bridges the Naval Academy and the ship’s legacy. Inside the back neck, the embroidered “USN 250” celebrates the milestone being honored.

The stone-colored pants serve as a subtle nod to the clothing worn by sailors during the early years of the Navy. On both sides, six ropes run vertically to represent the six original frigates, while the pants feature a total of 126 knots to commemorate this year’s 126th meeting between Army and Navy.

The helmet may be the most narrative-driven part of the uniform. Its copper shell is a direct tribute to the copper plating that protected the under-hull of the original frigates. The facemask and chin strap use dark navy to mirror the color of the Constitution’s hull. On the left side, a copper-outlined “USN” monogram connects the Naval Academy to the Navy’s 250th Anniversary through design elements found in Bancroft Hall. The right side features a hand-painted illustration of the USS Constitution, set against stone-colored parchment that symbolizes both the ship’s sails and the navigation maps used during its era. Running down the center, the wooden-plank-inspired stripe is wrapped with nautical rope, coiling six times in the front and six in the back to reference the original six frigates. Each end of the stripe is surrounded by 63 rope knots, 63 in the front and 63 in the rear, to honor both the 126th Army–Navy Game and Navy’s 63 victories in the rivalry. The front bumper spells out “Navy” in copper, while the rear reads “USN 250.” The back numbers use a depth-marker-inspired font in nautical navy with white and copper outlines.
