West Virginia Football Brings Back Gloss White Helmet

West Virginia Football is making another subtle adjustment to its uniforms for the 2026 season, continuing the program's recent embrace of its traditional identity.

The Mountaineers have officially unveiled a new gloss white helmet, replacing the matte white shell that had been part of the uniform rotation since the 2013 season. While the change may seem minor at first glance, it represents another step toward blending some of the most recognizable eras in West Virginia football history.

The new helmet features a glossy white finish with the familiar blue outline of the state of West Virginia and the iconic gold Flying WV logo centered inside the decal. Aside from the finish itself, the overall design remains clean and unmistakably Mountaineers.

The move marks the end of an era for West Virginia's matte white helmet, which debuted during the program's major uniform overhaul in 2013. That redesign introduced a much more minimalistic look featuring the now-familiar pickaxe-inspired number font, replacing the bold, NASCAR-style numerals worn during the Pat White and Geno Smith years under Rich Rodriguez.
