Coastal Carolina Channels the ’90s With Special Uniforms
Coastal Carolina is pressing rewind for its annual “Wait Til You See This” matchup, bringing a ’90s-inspired uniform combination to Brooks Stadium against App State. The limited-edition look taps into the bold colors, oversized graphics and expressive style that made the decade instantly recognizable.
The Chanticleers will debut the uniforms on Friday, October 16, with kickoff set for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
The inspiration reaches beyond traditional football throwbacks. Coastal looked to the colorful aesthetic of television favorites such as Saved by the Bell, Boy Meets World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Friends, drawing from an era when fashion and pop culture embraced plenty of personality.
That approach gives the uniform a different kind of throwback story. Rather than recreating a past Coastal football look, the combination captures the feel of the decade through bold color combinations and larger-than-life graphics.
For a program that has made its “Wait Til You See This” game an opportunity to introduce something unexpected, the ’90s theme provides plenty of room to get creative.
Coastal is extending the theme into the stands, encouraging fans to arrive in their best ’90s outfits. Colorful windbreakers, oversized graphic tees, baggy jeans, overalls, bucket hats and high-top sneakers are all part of the invitation.
