McLaren Unveils Heritage-Inspired Silverstone Livery and Race Suits Honoring Its Formula 1 Origins

McLaren Racing is turning back the clock for its home race. Ahead of the 2026 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the team has unveiled a stunning one-off heritage livery and matching race suits created in partnership with Google Gemini. The special design celebrates the car that launched McLaren's Formula 1 journey while showcasing the innovation that continues to define one of the sport's most successful teams.

Centered around the campaign theme, "Spark What's Next," the Silverstone livery pays tribute to the McLaren M2B, the team's first-ever Formula 1 car that debuted at the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix. Later that same season, Bruce McLaren scored the team's first Formula 1 championship point at the British Grand Prix, making Silverstone the perfect stage to honor the beginning of McLaren's remarkable legacy.

"Our Silverstone livery is a celebration of where we began and everything we have built since," McLaren said when unveiling the special design.

The livery creates a visual bridge between McLaren's past and present. Drawing inspiration from the M2B, the design incorporates heritage elements while maintaining the sleek, modern look of the championship-contending MCL40. The matching race suits continue the throwback theme, giving McLaren one of the most memorable visual identities of the British Grand Prix weekend.

The release builds on McLaren's ongoing celebration of its Formula 1 heritage. Earlier this season at the Monaco Grand Prix, the team commemorated its 1,000th Formula 1 race by having two-time World Champion Mika Häkkinen drive the original M2B around the Circuit de Monaco. The Silverstone livery continues that story, highlighting the evolution of McLaren from its first Grand Prix entry to one of Formula 1's premier organizations.

Special-event liveries are at their best when they tell a story, and McLaren's Silverstone design accomplishes exactly that. Rather than simply introducing a new color scheme, the team created a tribute that connects the M2B that started it all with the cutting-edge MCL40 competing today. Combined with the matching heritage-inspired race suits, the result is one of the standout motorsport designs of the 2026 season and a fitting celebration of McLaren's past, present and future.
