San Diego State Unveils “Age of the Jaguar” Uniform
San Diego State is bringing a new chapter of its Aztec identity to the field with the unveiling of its “Age of the Jaguar”uniform.
The Aztecs will debut the new look Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium against James Madison, marking the first time in program history that San Diego State will wear an all-red combination featuring red jerseys and red pants.
Inspired by Ocelotl, the Aztec word for jaguar, the uniform expands on San Diego State’s evolving approach to incorporating Aztec iconography into its visual identity while creating a bold new expression for the football program.
The “Age of the Jaguar” uniform is built around San Diego State’s signature red and black color palette, with the all-red jersey and pants combination creating one of the most distinctive looks in the program’s uniform history.
The look is anchored by a black helmet, featuring the Ocelotl glyph on one side and the player’s number on the other.
The result is a combination that immediately stands out from a distance while incorporating layers of meaning throughout the uniform.
At the center of the design is the Ocelotl glyph, connecting the uniform directly to the jaguar and its significance within Aztec culture.
The jaguar has historically been associated with power, valor and military prowess, while also representing qualities such as grit, perseverance and strength.
Within Aztec tradition, Ocelotl is connected to Tezcatlipoca, a deity associated with the night sky, memory and time. Jaguars were also associated with elite warriors, representing discipline, bravery and strength in battle.
Those themes provide the foundation for a uniform designed to communicate more than just a new color combination.
The all-red look gives San Diego State a new visual chapter while continuing the program’s effort to build a more distinctive and meaningful Aztec identity through its uniforms.
