adidas x Topps Special Edition Cleat & Trainer Pack

adidas and Topps card company have released a special pack to celebrate America's pastime. The special package will feature the adizero Afterburner, Icon cleat and Icon Trainer. The designers at adidas took inspiration from a variety of Topps packs of cards and incorporated them into the actual cleats and trainer.

"After the card-opening session, the idea was to bring the excitement and anticipation of opening a pack of cards to life through a baseball cleat. Centered around the unique elements found on Topps Chrome packs, the holographic images and stats on the backs of cards became the centerpiece of the design." adidas

The Topps cleats and trainer feature a hologram graphic that changes colors with movement and light. The upper of the cleat shows off statistics while the 3 stripes show a jersey material. The inspiration behind the 3 stripe material was the rare Topps baseball cards that feature game-worn jersey material. An additional unique element of the cleats show a graphic of blurred fans at a baseball game and a Topps certified autograph space for players to sign the cleats, just like players sign their rookie cards.

2018 All-Star Game Hats Concept

With the 2018 MLB All-Star game taking place in our Nations Capital designer Jesse Alkire decided to take a page from the past as well as pay homage to the city itself with his designs. The hat design was inspired by the 1950s-era Washington Senators cap that featured a standard W type font. To tie into DC we see on the underneath of hat's bill covered in a Cherry Blossom pattern to honor the city's world-famous Cherry Blossom trees. These are all just concepts and are not the official ASG hats. See full design concept including socks and shirts HERE.

Nike to take over the MLB

Reports have surfaced that Nike and the MLB are finalizing a deal for Nike to become the on-field apparel partner. The deal that was announced in 2016 that Under Armour would be taking over the MLB contract is now switching to Nike.

"These rights were originally awarded to Under Amrour in '16, but the company’s recent financial problems made an on-field deal untenable. An industry source said that by not doing the deal, UA will save around $50M at a time when the brand's growth has slowed and its market cap shrunk dramatically." said SportsBusiness Daily.

If Nike deal goes through for the MLB look for the announcement to come around All-Star Week with all eyes on baseball. Nike will now have the big 3 of sports adding the MLB to their roster of NFL and NBA.

Royals 'Turn Ahead The Clock Night' Uniforms

The Kansas City Royals will take part in the 20th anniversary of 'Turn Ahead The Clock Night' in Seattle along with the Mariners. The Royals take a dive into what the future of the baseball uniform could look like and what we could see down the road from the team's look. The emphasis of the uniform is the Royal's crown. We see the teams batting helmets have been designed to make it look like the player batting is actually wearing a crown. The crown is also front and center on the team's caps. The jersey like the Mariners uniforms are sleeveless, a prediction that was made in 1998 of the future of the baseball jersey. The overall uniform is mainly blue with gold accents that really pop throughout the design.

On June 30th the Mariners are bringing back the 1998 look that they envisioned how 2027 would be with the "Turn Ahead the Clock Night" for its 20th anniversary. Here are the uniforms the team will wear for the event in 2018.
