Capitals & Nationals Team Up for Collaborative Specialty Jersey

Two of D.C.’s most iconic franchises are joining forces. The Washington Capitals and Washington Nationals have unveiled a collaborative specialty jersey, celebrating the shared history and pride both teams bring to the nation’s capital.

As the Nationals wrap up their 20th anniversary season and the Capitals reflect on their 50th anniversary milestone last year, the jersey stands as a symbol of the strong bond between the organizations and their connection to the city they represent.

The partnership between the Caps and Nats has been highlighted by unforgettable moments:

The 2015 NHL Winter Classic at Nationals Park.

Ceremonial first pitches and cross-sport appearances.

The Stanley Cup’s visit to Nationals Park in 2018.

Nationals players taking a Zamboni ride at Capital One Arena following their 2019 World Series win.

Both teams delivered championships to Washington in back-to-back years, with the Capitals’ Stanley Cup in 2018 and the Nationals’ World Series in 2019, cementing their legacies in D.C. sports history.

The jersey design proudly features “Washington” across the chest as a nod to shared city pride on both the diamond and the ice. Its font and numbering are inspired by the Nationals’ 2005 home uniform, paying tribute to the return of Major League Baseball to D.C. after a 33-year absence. Completing the look, one shoulder displays the Capitals’ iconic Weagle logo, while the other showcases the Nationals’ 20th anniversary logo, tying together the history and identity of both franchises.

The jersey blends history, tradition, and a sense of unity, capturing the essence of both franchises while celebrating their milestones.

To mark the collaboration, Capitals forward Dylan Strome will wear the specialty jersey while throwing out the ceremonial first pitch on Monday, Sept. 15, as the Nationals host the Atlanta Braves. Nationals players will also take batting practice in special-edition Capitals T-shirts, with additional Caps-themed activations happening throughout the ballpark that night.

This collaboration is more than just a jersey; it’s a celebration of D.C.’s sports culture, uniting fans of the red, white, and blue across the city.

Kraken Unveil Glow-in-the-Dark Third Uniform

The Seattle Kraken are diving deeper than ever before with the reveal of their brand-new third uniform: The Jersey from the Abyss. Forged in shadows and lit by the eerie glow of bioluminescence, this all-black kit is designed to bring stealth, intimidation, and Northwest identity to the ice.

From helmet to blade, the Kraken’s new look is head-to-toe matte black, creating a fluid silhouette that moves silently across the ice. The sleeves and socks are patterned with sonar pings, an echo through the darkness that hints at what lies just beyond sight.

The Kraken logo has been reimagined in tonal black-on-black stitching, making it nearly invisible at first glance—like a predator lying in wait. But when the lights dim, the iconic “S” comes alive.

Encircling the crest is an Ice Blue glow-in-the-dark outline, a nod to the rare natural phenomenon of bioluminescence found in the waters of the Pacific Northwest. It’s a detail that makes this jersey unlike anything else in the NHL, capturing the mystery of the deep.

The Kraken continue to celebrate local heritage with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe patch, which is given a glowing treatment to match the jersey’s theme. It’s a reminder that the team’s roots are tied directly to the region they represent.

“The Jersey from the Abyss” is more than just a third uniform—it’s a statement piece. The combination of stealth black, sonar-inspired design, and glow-in-the-dark detailing sets a new bar for creativity in NHL sweaters. Fans can expect a one-of-a-kind experience when these hit the ice at Climate Pledge Arena.

Marshall Brings Back Green Helmets

The Thundering Herd are going green again. Marshall Football unveiled a brand-new green alternate helmet for the 2025 season, bringing back a look fans haven’t seen since 2009. Complete with the program’s iconic “M” logo, the new lids will mark the first time in 15 years that the Herd will take the field in green.

The last time Marshall wore green helmets came in the 2009 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, a 21-17 victory over Ohio at Ford Field.

While the throwback connection is clear, the 2025 version comes with a modern twist. The helmet features a matte finish and Marshall’s current stylized “M” logo, a sleeker design compared to the block “M” of the past. The striping pattern remains similar to the late-2000s edition, but the updated aesthetic brings it in line with the program’s current brand identity.

From 2010 through 2021, Marshall stuck exclusively with white helmets. Over the past three seasons, the Herd introduced black lids to the rotation, giving the program a two-color helmet set. The addition of green in 2025 makes it a three-helmet rotation — white, black, and now the long-awaited green.

Idaho Vandals to Rock "Fightin’ Taters" Helmets

The University of Idaho is bringing a truly one-of-a-kind look to the field this weekend. When the Vandals open their 2025 home slate against St. Thomas, they’ll debut special “Fightin’ Taters” helmets, a bold nod to the Gem State’s proud agricultural roots.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Saturday’s game is presented by the Idaho Potato Commission, making the themed alternate look a fitting tribute to one of the state’s most iconic exports.

“The University of Idaho already has one of the most unique mascots and brands in all of college athletics,” said Assistant Athletic Director for Brand Engagement and Digital Strategy Jerek Wolcott. “This was an opportunity to celebrate our state and our tremendous agricultural history while partnering with the creative minds at Field Rush for a game sponsored by the Idaho Potato Commission. Everything came together for this week for something truly unique, and we couldn't be more excited to see this alternate brand on the field.”

The celebration won’t stop with the helmets. Fans attending the game can expect a full potato-themed experience: the Idaho Potato Commission’s 70-foot-long Big Potato Truck will be on-site, and the beloved mascot Spuddy Buddy will be in attendance to bring the energy.

The “Fightin’ Taters” identity is more than just a clever alternate; it’s a celebration of Idaho’s culture, history, and community pride. By leaning into their roots, the Vandals continue to prove they aren’t afraid to stand out in the college football landscape.

Patriots Unveil Storm Blue Rivalries Uniform

The New England Patriots have revealed their Rivalries uniform, a storm blue look that blends regional pride, franchise history, and iconic New England imagery. Inspired by the fog that rolls through the region, the design serves as both a nod to the six states that make up New England and to the dynasty that delivered six Super Bowl titles.

Around the neckline sit six red stars — one for each state and each championship. The details continue across the shoulders and pants with reflective silver stripes, representing beams of light shining from the Gillette Stadium Lighthouse. Towering 218 feet tall, the lighthouse is the tallest nontraditional lighthouse in the country, and it stands as a beacon for fans across the region.

Additional touches tie the uniform back to both heritage and legacy. A silver “NE” patch sits on the sleeve, while the neckline carries the iconic phrase “We Are All Patriots,” first spoken by owner Robert Kraft following the team’s Super Bowl XXXVI victory in the wake of 9/11. The numbers feature perforated stripes and embroidery in a subtle callback to the Drew Bledsoe era uniforms.

The set is completed with silver pants, giving the look a sleek and modern finish.

For the on-field debut, it’s only fitting that New England will wear the Rivalries uniform against the New York Jets, one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL.

“Patriots vs. Jets isn’t just another game on the schedule — it’s a battle of pride, history and two fan bases that want nothing more than to see the other side walk off the field disappointed,” said Hall of Famer and former linebacker Andre Tippett.

With regional pride stitched into every detail, the Patriots’ Rivalries uniform is a fresh take on tradition — and a bold new way to represent New England on the biggest stage.
