Rutgers Unveils Special 9/11 Uniforms
Rutgers football will take the field Friday night in one of the most meaningful uniforms of the 2026 season.
The Scarlet Knights have unveiled a special-edition uniform honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, with the program specifically recognizing the 37 Rutgers alumni who were killed in the attacks. The uniforms will debut Friday, September 11, when Rutgers travels to Boston College on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The look features a scarlet jersey and pants, keeping the traditional Rutgers color front and center while incorporating several powerful tribute details. “NEVER FORGET” is prominently featured down the side of the pants, creating a simple but powerful message that carries throughout the uniform.
The helmet features a No. 37, representing the 37 Rutgers alumni who lost their lives on September 11. The number gives the helmet a particularly personal connection to the university and the people being remembered.
This isn't the first time Rutgers has created a uniform specifically to honor the victims of 9/11. The Scarlet Knights previously wore a special tribute uniform in 2021 for the 20th anniversary, featuring first-responder-inspired striping, the names of Rutgers alumni lost in the attacks and “Never Forget” detailing.
The 2026 matchup carries even more weight because Rutgers will face Boston College at Alumni Stadium on Friday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET, with the Eagles also wearing a special Red Bandanna uniform honoring Boston College alumnus Welles Crowther, who helped save lives during the attacks.
