Iowa State Jack Trice Legacy Game Throwback Uniforms

The Iowa State football program recently revealed their throwback uniforms that they will be wearing for the Jack Trice Legacy Game. On Saturday, October 7th, Iowa State will play host to TCU at the stadium that bears Jack Trice's name. This year's jersey honors the ones worn by Jack Trice during the 1923 season, and it includes many unique features.

One of the special features of this year's throwback jersey is the Ames logo. In the early 1900s, Iowa State athletic teams were commonly referred to as "Ames." This logo will be featured on the helmet and uniform pants. By incorporating the Ames logo, the team pays homage to its history and the school's past.

Another feature of the jersey is the "i will" script on the bumper of the helmet. This script is taken from a handwritten letter penned by Jack Trice prior to the Iowa State-Minnesota game in 1923. Trice wrote, "My thoughts just before the first real college game of my life: The honor of my race, family, and self is at stake. Everyone is expecting me to do big things. I will." By adding this script to the helmet, the team is reminding everyone of the dedication and hard work that Jack Trice put in during his time at Iowa State.

Lastly, the jersey features the Jack Trice logo. The chevron bars on the jersey signify the uniform style worn by Trice and the Iowa State team during the 1923 season. This logo is a tribute to Jack Trice and his legacy at Iowa State.

The Iowa State football program's decision to wear these throwback uniforms is a great way to pay tribute to Jack Trice and his contributions to the school. Trice's legacy is one that should never be forgotten, and by wearing these jerseys, the team is ensuring that his memory will live on for years to come.

Overall, the Iowa State football program's throwback jerseys are not only a nod to the past but also a way to inspire the players to work hard and honor the legacy of those who came before them. These special uniforms will make their debut during the upcoming game against East Carolina, bringing a touch of nostalgia and a sense of local pride to the field.

The Rice Owls' alternate uniforms draw inspiration from a significant chapter in Houston's football history—the era of the Houston Oilers. Specifically, the Owls will sport gray helmets modeled after the Oilers' design from 1966-70. These helmets feature iconic red, white, and light blue stripes down the center, accompanied by an Old English "R" in the same colors on the sides. It's a nod to an era when the Oilers called Rice Stadium home, marking the period from 1965-67 before their move to the Houston Astrodome.

The symbolism goes beyond just aesthetics. The choice of Rice Stadium as the Oilers' former home adds an extra layer of significance to the Owls' homage. This connection reflects a shared legacy between the Rice Owls and the Oilers, highlighting the historical role that Rice Stadium played in shaping Houston's football identity.

The Owls' commitment to authenticity extends to the entire uniform ensemble. The light blue jerseys feature red, white, and navy blue accents, creating a seamless integration of the Oilers' colors into the Owls' existing palette. The white pants with a light blue and navy blue striping pattern down the sides perfectly complement the overall aesthetic. Even the socks join in with the same stripes as the distinctive helmet design.

As the Rice Owls step onto the field in these special uniforms, they not only pay homage to the Oilers but also celebrate the shared football heritage that unites the Houston community. These alternate uniforms are more than just clothing for a game; they're a symbol of pride, a tribute to history, and a connection between the past and the present.

Minnesota Wild Unveils New Alternate Uniform

The Minnesota Wild have just unveiled a new alternate uniform that's sure to send waves of nostalgia through the hearts of hockey fans. Dubbed "The 78's" in honor of their predecessor franchise, the North Stars, these throwback alternate jerseys pay homage to the late-1970s design and colors that once adorned the North Stars' uniforms. With a Kelly Green base color and bright yellow striping, "The 78's" introduce a whole new colorway that celebrates the rich hockey history of Minnesota.

The North Stars are a beloved chapter in Minnesota's hockey history, and "The 78's" alternate uniforms serve as a beautiful tribute to that legacy. These jerseys resurrect the iconic late-1970s design that became synonymous with the North Stars, evoking memories of legendary players and unforgettable moments on the ice.

John Maher, Minnesota Wild Senior Brand Advisor, shared the enthusiasm of fans for this legacy look. "Our primary home and road jerseys are as popular as ever with our fans," he said. "They also let us know last season that they still loved this legacy look, so we decided to keep it in our mix as a new alternate jersey, with some updated 'State of Hockey' details."

While "The 78's" draw inspiration from the past, they also incorporate some modern updates. These jerseys are based on the Minnesota Wild's Reverse Retro uniforms from the 2020-21 and 2022-23 seasons, which were the result of a collaboration with adidas and the NHL. However, "The 78's" feature additional details that set them apart.

One notable addition is a shoulder patch featuring the "State of Hockey" logo, a nod to the pride and passion of Minnesota's hockey community. Another distinctive treatment is found in the captain and alternate captains' 'C' and 'A' on the upper left chest. These symbols are now layered over a patch in the shape of Minnesota, further emphasizing the team's connection to its home state.

Hockey fans will have the pleasure of seeing "The 78's" in action as the Minnesota Wild plan to wear this alternate uniform for 15 games during the upcoming season. Each time they take the ice in these throwback jerseys, it will be a celebration of Minnesota's hockey heritage and a reminder of the enduring love for the sport in the State of Hockey.
