East Carolina football will carry one of its greatest players onto the field all season long.
ECU announced that the Pirates will wear a special helmet decal throughout the 2026 football season in honor of former running back Chris Johnson as he courageously battles amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Johnson recently shared that he has been diagnosed with sporadic ALS. Since making his diagnosis public, the ECU legend has used his platform to raise awareness for the disease while offering hope and encouragement to others affected by ALS.
"Chris is a Pirate legend, but more importantly, he is a special member of the ECU family, and we want him to know that Pirate Nation is with him every step of the way," ECU Director of Athletics Jon Gilbert said in the school's announcement.
Head coach Blake Harrell echoed that message, emphasizing that Johnson's impact extends far beyond what he accomplished on the football field.
"Chris Johnson will forever be a Pirate, and when one of our own faces a challenge like this, we stand together as one Pirate family," Harrell said. "Every time our team takes the field this season, we will proudly carry his name and his fight with us."
The commemorative decal will be worn on every ECU helmet throughout the season alongside the team's American flag and American Athletic Conference decals.
Johnson remains one of the most accomplished players in East Carolina history. Wearing No. 5 from 2004–07, he finished his collegiate career third on the school's all-time rushing list and first in all-purpose yards, while setting 18 school records across single-game, season, and career categories.
ECU will debut the helmet decal when the Pirates open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Alabama.

Chelsea have officially unveiled their new 2026/27 Nike away kit, and it's one of the cleanest football kits released this year.
The Blues are returning to a bold black base for their new change strip, marking the club's first predominantly black away shirt since the 2016/17 season. The look is elevated by striking "Midwest Gold Lustre" accents that appear throughout the jersey, creating a premium black-and-gold color combination.
The gold detailing ties directly into Chelsea's recently released home kit. A laurel wreath motif surrounds the round neckline and sleeve cuffs before reappearing on the club's gold socks, while engineered gold ribbing across each shoulder adds another subtle design element.
The kit is being launched under Chelsea's "Unleash The Lion" campaign and continues the club's refreshed visual identity introduced for the 2026/27 season. Rather than relying on loud graphics or oversized patterns, Nike opted for a clean, modern aesthetic that lets the black-and-gold color palette do the talking.
Fans won't have to wait long to see the new look on the pitch. Chelsea will debut the away kit during the club's upcoming preseason tour of Australia and Asia, giving supporters an early look before the Premier League season begins.

Manchester United are bringing back one of the club's most iconic looks.
The Red Devils officially unveiled their new 2026/27 away kit on Wednesday, reintroducing the club's classic blue away identity with a modern design that blends tradition and contemporary styling.
Blue has long played a significant role in Manchester United history. Some of the club's biggest victories have come while wearing blue, including the 1968 European Cup Final, the 2009 UEFA Champions League semifinal, and the 2017 UEFA Europa League Final.
The latest edition honors that legacy while delivering a fresh look for the upcoming season. The jersey features a bold blue base accented by Manchester United's traditional red and white colors. One of the standout details is adidas' iconic Trefoil logo, giving the kit a retro-inspired touch that has become increasingly popular across football.
The result is a clean, timeless design that feels both modern and unmistakably Manchester United.
Fans won't have to wait long to see the new kit on the pitch.
Manchester United will debut the new blue away strip in Friday's friendly against Rosenborg at Lerkendal Stadium in Trondheim. The club will then wear the kit again eight days later when they face Atlético Madrid at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are running it back. After initially saying there were no plans to wear their iconic 1976 throwback uniforms beyond the franchise's 50th anniversary celebration, the Buccaneers announced that the beloved look will return once again during the 2026 season.
Tampa Bay will wear the original white throwback jerseys, white pants, and classic white helmets featuring the original "Bucco Bruce" logo when they host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13. The return comes after a memorable debut season for the uniforms in 2025.
The Buccaneers wore the vintage look twice during their 50th anniversary season and came away victorious in both games. Tampa Bay edged the New York Jets 29-27 in Week 3 before defeating the Seattle Seahawks 38-35 in Week 5. Fittingly, Seattle also wore its own original 1976 throwback uniforms in that matchup, creating one of the best uniform showdowns of the NFL season.
Originally introduced during the franchise's inaugural 1976 season, the uniforms remain one of the most recognizable throwback designs in football. From the white helmet featuring the smiling sword-carrying Bucco Bruce logo to the vibrant orange, red, and white color palette, the look has become a fan favorite and one of the NFL's most iconic retro uniforms.
Sometimes tradition is worth bringing back, and for the Buccaneers, the original 1976 uniforms continue to prove they're as timeless as ever.

The New York Jets are adding another clean look to their uniform rotation. The Jets officially unveiled their new "White Out" helmets, which will debut in Week 2 when New York hosts the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 20.
The helmet is exactly what the name suggests, a completely white shell paired with a matching white facemask to create the franchise's first true monochrome white look.
The design features a green version of the Jets' modernized logo, first introduced with the team's 2024 rebrand, on both sides of the helmet. A green "NY" mark sits on the forehead, flowing into a single green center stripe that runs the length of the helmet. The stripe is complemented by green player numbers on the back positioned above a matching "New York" wordmark.
The new helmet perfectly complements the Jets' Legacy White uniform, creating one of the cleanest all-white combinations in the NFL.
New York returned to its iconic "Sack Exchange" era uniforms full-time in 2024, modernizing the classic look originally worn from 1978-97. Since then, the franchise has built one of the league's most versatile uniform lineups with Legacy Green, Legacy White, and Legacy Black uniforms, giving the Jets three distinct monochrome combinations. The addition of the White Out helmet completes that vision.
The Jets have quietly assembled one of the NFL's strongest uniform rotations over the past two seasons, and the new White Out helmet is another impressive addition to the collection.

Tennessee officially unveiled its updated Dark Mode football uniforms for the 2026 season, continuing a tradition that has become synonymous with electric nights inside Neyland Stadium. First introduced in 2009 and revived in 2021, the all-black look has evolved into one of the Volunteers' signature alternate uniforms.
The latest version pushes the design forward while maintaining the identity fans have come to expect.
The all-black uniform returns with matching black helmet, jersey and pants, creating the intimidating monochromatic look that has become a fan favorite. While the overall color scheme remains familiar, several new design elements modernize the uniform for a new era of Tennessee football.
One of the biggest updates is the introduction of Tennessee's redesigned number font. Developed through months of collaboration between Tennessee's creative team and adidas designers, the new numbers blend the Volunteers' traditional block style with modern lines, creating a look that feels fresh without abandoning the program's history.
The front collar also receives a subtle but meaningful update with the iconic Power T logo placed inside a circular mark, giving the uniform another distinctive Tennessee element.
Inside the collar, players will continue to carry one of the most meaningful traditions in college athletics. The historic "I will give my all!" phrase appears in its original script, serving as a reminder of the standard and culture that has defined Tennessee football for generations.
Traditional striping also returns to the pants, tying together classic Volunteer design cues with the uniform's modern execution.
According to Tennessee, the Dark Mode uniforms are intended to represent the future of the program. Rather than looking back, the design embraces innovation while providing opportunities to introduce new features and styling never before seen on a Volunteers football uniform.
The result is an alternate uniform that feels contemporary without losing what makes Tennessee instantly recognizable.

The concept celebrates two of the most iconic football venues in the country, Camp Randall Stadium and Lambeau Field, bringing together generations of championship tradition in one bold uniform. For the occasion, the Badgers are going all red.
The monochromatic look features a striking red helmet, jersey and pants, creating one of Wisconsin's boldest uniform combinations in recent memory.
